Sayings of Prophet Muhammad
may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him

Iman (Faith)

Faith and Action (Iman and Amal)
Narrated Hadrat Ubada (may Allah be pleased with him): The Prophet (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) said, "If anyone testifies that none has the right to be worshiped but Allah Alone who has no partners and that Muhammad is His servant and His Messenger and that Jesus (peace be on him) is Allah's servant and His Apostle and His Word which he bestowed on Mary (peace be upon her) and a soul from Him, and that paradise is true and hell is true, Allah will admit him into paradise with the deeds which he has done even if those deeds are few". (Bukhari)

Faith in Allah (The Glorified and the Exalted)
On the authority of Hadrat Zayd ibn Khalid al-Juhaniyya (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: Allah's Messenger (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) led the morning prayer for us at al-Hudaybiyah following rainfall during the night. When the Prophet (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) finished, he faced the people and said to them: "Do you know what your Lord has said?" They said: "Allah and His Messenger know best." He said, "This morning one of My servants became a believer in Me and one a disbeliever. As for him who said: We have been given rain by virtue of Allah and His mercy, that one is a believer in Me, and disbeliever in the stars; as for him who said: We have been given rain by such and such a star, that one is a disbeliever in Me, a believer in the stars." (Bukhari, Malik, an-Nasai)

Steadfastness (Istiqamah)
Hadrat Sufyan ibn Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) relates. 'I said, O Messenger of Allah give me some such comprehensive guidance about Islam after which I may not have to ask anyone else'. The Holy Prophet (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) replied, "Say: I believe in Allah and then be steadfast" (on it). (Muslim)

Branches of Faith
Hadrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) reported Allah's Messenger (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) as saying, "Faith has over seventy branches, the most excellent of which is the declaration that there is no god but Allah, and the humblest of which is the removal of what is injurious from the road. And modesty is a branch of faith." (Bukhari and Muslim)

Love for the Prophet (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him)
Narrated Hazat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him): The Prophet (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) said, "None of you will have faith till he loves me more than his father, his children and all mankind." (Bukhari)

Iman between hope and fear
Hadrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that Allah's Messenger (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) once visited a young man who was at death's door. The Prophet (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) asked him, "In what state do you find yourself now?" The young man replied, "O Messenger of Allah! My state is that I am hopeful of Divine Mercy, but, at the same time, there is fear of punishment for the sins (I have commited)." The Prophet (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) remarked, "Believe it, in whose heart the two feelings of hope and fear are present at the time of death, Allah will surely grant him what he confidently expects from His Mercy and keep him safe from the punishment he fears in his heart." (Tirmidhi)

Belief in the natural and supernatural
Mother of faithful believers, Hadrat A'isha (may Allah be pleased with her) reported Allah's Messenger (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) as saying, "The angels were created from light, the jinn from smokeless fire, and Adam from what he has been described to you." * (Muslim)

*Qu'ran, (3:59) (dust); (15:26, 28, 33); (55:14 ) (crackling clay)

Muslims should not believe soothsayers and astrologers
Mother of faithful believers, Hadrat Hafsa (may Allah be pleased with her) said, The Prophet (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) said, "Whoso approaches soothsayers and astrologers to ascertain future events, his prescribed prayers of forty nights and days are not accepted." (Muslim)

The Iman of the Prophet (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him)
Hadrat Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: We went along with Allah's Messenger (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) on an expedition towards Najd and Allah's Messenger (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) found us in a valley abounding in thorny trees. Alla'h's Messenger (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) stayed for rest under a tree and he suspended his sword by one of its branches under which he was taking rest. The persons scattered in the valley and they also began to take rest under the shade of trees. And Allah's Messenger (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) said: A person came to me while I was asleep and he took hold of the sword. I woke up and found him standing upon my head and I had hardly become alert (and saw) that the sword was in his hand. And he said: who can protect you from me? I said: Allah. He again said: Who can protect you from me? I said: Allah. He put his sword in the sheath (and you can see) this man sitting here. Allah's Messenger (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) did not in any way touch him. (Muslim)
