The rewards of establishing justice
Hadrat ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Amr ibn Al-‘Aas (may Allah be pleased with him) relates that the Holy Prophet Muhammad (may Allah’s blessings and peace be upon him) said: The just and fair persons (rulers and judges) will be seated on chairs of light before Allah (The Glorified and The Exalted). Such persons are those who decide justly and deal justly in matters relating to their families and other affairs entrusted to them. (Muslim)
Narrated Hadrat Abu Hurayra (may Allah be pleased with him) that Allah’s Messenger (may Allah’s blessings and peace be upon him) said, “There is a Sadaqa (charity) to be given for every joint of the human body, and for every day on which the sun rises, there is a reward of a Sadaqa (charitable gift) for the one who establishes justice among people.” (Bukhari)
The rewards of a good judge
Hadrat ‘Abdallah bin ‘Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) and Hadrat Abu Hurayra (may Allah be pleased with him) reported Allah’s Messenger (may Allah’s blessings and peace be upon him) as saying, “When a judge gives a decision, having tried his best to decide correctly and is right, he will have a double reward; and when he gives a decision having tried his best to decide correctly and is wrong, he will have a single reward.” (Bukhari and Muslim)
Nobody should be above the law
Mother of faithful believers Sayyidatina ‘Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said that the (people of the tribe of) Quraysh were anxious about the Makhzumi woman who had committed theft and asked, “Who will speak to Allah’s Messenger (may Allah’s blessings and peace be upon him) about her?” Then they said, “Who will be bold enough for it but Usama bin Zayd, the friend of Allah's Messenger?” So Hadrat Usama (may Allah be pleased with him) spoke to him and Allah’s messenger said, “Are you interceding regarding one of the punishments prescribed by Allah?” He then got up and gave an address, saying, “What destroyed your predecessors was just that when a person of rank among them committed a theft, they left him alone, but when a weak one of their number committed a theft, they inflicted the prescribed punishment on him. I swear by Allah that if Fatima, daughter of Muhammad, should steal I would have her hand cut off.” (Bukhari and Muslim)
Do not usurp
Hadrat Sa‘id bin Zayd (may Allah be pleased with him) reported Allah’s Messenger (may Allah’s blessings and peace be upon him) as saying, “If anyone takes a span of land unjustly, its extent taken from seven earths will be tied round his neck on the Day of Resurrection." (Bukhari and Muslim)
Hadrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) reported Allah’s Messenger (may Allah’s blessings and peace be upon him) as saying, “If anyone deprives an heir of his inheritance, Allah (The Glorified and The Exalted) will deprive him of his inheritance in Paradise on the Day of Resurrection.” (Ibn Majah)
Do not be witnesses for injustice
Narrated Hadrat Ash-Sha‘bi (may Allah be pleased with him) that Prophet Muhammad (may Allah’s blessings and peace be upon him) said, “I will not become a witness for injustice.” (Bukhari)
Proof lies on the plaintiff
‘Amr bin Shu‘ayb, on his father's authority, said that his grandfather reported the Prophet (may Allah’s blessings and peace be upon him) as saying, “Proof lies on the plaintiff and the oath is to be sworn by the defendant.” (Tirmidhi)
The defendant’s oath
Narrated Hadrat Ibn Abu Mulayka: Hadrat Ibn ‘Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) wrote that the Prophet (may Allah’s blessings and peace be upon him) gave his verdict on the basis of the defendant’s oath. (Bukhari)
Do not suffer injustice
Hadrat Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: Allah’s Messenger (may Allah’s blessings and peace be upon him) never went out of my house without raising his eye to the sky and saying: “O Allah! I seek refuge in You lest I stray or be led astray, or slip or made to slip, or cause injustice or suffer injustice, or do wrong or have wrong done to me. (Abu Dawud)
