We do not say to you as the children of Israel said to Nabi Musa (peace be upon him) 'Go you and your Lord and fight you two; we are sitting here, (5:24) but (we say). 'Proceed, and we are with you.' "That seemed to delight Allah's Messenger (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) greatly. (Bukhari)

They followed the commands of Allah (The Glorified and the Exalted) and of His Messenger (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him)
Narrated Ishaq bin 'Abdullah bin Abi Talha: I heard Hadrat Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) saying, "Hadrat Abu Talha (may Allah be pleased with him) had more property of date-palm trees gardens than any other amongst the Ansar in Madina and the most beloved of them to him was the Bairuha garden, and it was in front of the Mosque of the Prophet (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him). Allah's Messenger (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) used to go there and used to drink its nice water." Hadrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) added, "When these verses were revealed:-

'By no means shall you attain righteousness unless you spend (in charity) of that which you love.' (3:92)

Hadrat Abu Talha (may Allah be pleased with him) said to Allah's Messenger (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) 'O Allah's Messenger! Allah, the Blessed, the Superior says: 'By no means shall you attain righteousness, unless you spend (in charity) of that which you love.' And no doubt, Bairuha garden is the most beloved of all my property to me. So I want to give it in charity in Allah's cause! I expect its reward from Allah. O Allah's Messenger! Spend it where Allah makes you think it is feasible.' On that, Allah's Messenger (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) said, 'Bravo! It is useful property. I have heard what you have said (O Abu Talha), and I think it would be proper if you gave it to your kith and kin.' Hadrat Abu Talha (may Allah be pleased with him) said, 'I will do so, O Allah's Messenger.' Then Hadrat Abu Talha (may Allah be pleased with him) distributed that garden amongst his relatives and his cousins." (Bukhari)

Hadrat Sa'd bin 'Obada (may Allah be pleased with him) told Allah's Messenger (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) that Umm Sa'd had died and asked him what form of sadaqa was best. When he replied that water was best, he dug a well and said it was for Umm Sa'd. (Abu Dawud and an-Nasai)

They obeyed the Prophet (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him)
Hadrat Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: I was the cup bearer of some people in the house of Hadrat Abu Talha (may Allah be pleased with him) on the day when liquor was forbidden. Their liquor had been prepared from dry dates or fresh dates when the announcer made the announcement. He (Hadrat Abu Talha) said to me: Go out and find out (what the announcement is). I got out (and found) an announcer making this announcement: Behold, liquor has been declared unlawful. He said: The liquor (was spilt and) flowed in the lanes of Madina. Abu Talha said to me: Go out and spill it, and I spilt it. They said or some of them said: Such and such were killed, such and such were killed for (the wine) had been in their stomachs. He (the narrator) said: I do not know whether it is the narration transmitted by Hadrat Anas (or by someone else). Then Allah, the Exalted and Majestic, revealed: 'There shall be no sin (imputed) unto those who have believed and done good works for what they may have eaten (in the past) as long as they fear (Allah) and believe and do good works." (5:93) (Muslim)

They sought the Blessings of the Prophet (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him)
Hadrat Sahl bin S'ad (may Allah be pleased with him) relates that a woman brought a woven piece of sheet to the Holy Prophet (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) and said to him: 'This piece of cloth has been woven by my own hands so that you might wear it.' He accepted the gift as he needed it and later came out wearing it as his loin cloth. A man said: 'It is very fine. Please give it to me to wear'. The Holy Prophet (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) said: 'Very well, and remained sitting with us for some time and went inside and sent the sheet duly folded to the man. Some of those present said to the man: 'You have not done well. The Holy Prophet (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) wore it as he needed it, but you asked him to give it to you , and you knew it well that he never refuses who asks him.' He said: 'Indeed, I did not ask for this piece of cloth to wear it. I requested him for it so that it might be used as my shroud (when I die) as this cloth is now blessed by the touch of the Holy Prophet's body', and ultimately it served as such. (Bukhari)

Their Poverty
Hadrat Khabbab bin al-Art (may Allah be pleased with him) said: We emigrated along with Allah's Messenger (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) seeking the face of Allah Most High, so our reward will come from Allah (The Glorified and the Exalted). Some of us have passed away not enjoying any of their reward (in this world), among whom Mus'ab bin 'Umair (may Allah be pleased with him) who was killed at the battle of Uhud, for whom only a coarse cloth could be found as a shroud. When we covered his head, his feet appeared and when we covered his feet his head appeared, so the Prophet (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) said, "Cover his head and put some rushes over his feet." Among us there are some for whom their fruit flourished, and they were plucking it. (Bukhari and Muslim)

They were helped by Allah (The Glorified and the Exalted)
Narrated Hadrat Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him): Two of the companions of the Prophet (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) departed from him on a dark night and were led by two lights like lamps (going in front of them from Allah as a miracle) lighting the way in front of them, and when they parted, each of them was accompanied by one of these lights till he reached his house. (Bukhari)

Narrated Wahab bin Kaisan: Hadrat Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "Allah's Messenger (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) sent troops to the sea coast and appointed Hadrat Abu Ubaida bin al-Jarrah (may Allah be pleased with him) as their commander, and they were 300 (men). We set out, and we had covered some distance on the way, when our journey food ran short. So Hadrat Abu Ubaida (may Allah be pleased with him) ordered that all the food present with the troops be collected, and it was collected. Our journey food was dates, and Hadrat Abu Ubaida (may Allah be pleased with him) kept on giving us our daily ration from it little by little till it decreased to such an extent tht we did not receive except a date each." I asked (Hadrat Jabir), "How could a date benefit you?" He said, "We came to know its value when even that finished". Hadrat Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) added, "Then we reached the sea (coast) where we found a fish like a small mountain. The people (i.e. troops) ate of it for 18 nights. Then Hadrat Abu Ubaida (may Allah be pleased with him) ordered that two of its ribs be fixed on the ground (in the form of an arch) and that a she-camel be ridden and passed under them. So it passed under them without touching them." (Bukhari)
