Injustice and helping the unjust. Giving false testimony. Lying. Gambling. Disobeying parents. Severing family ties. Cruelty to animals, for example, mutilating animals. Persisting in disobeying Allah's Commands. Abandoning any one or more of the five pillars of Islam. Abandoning any one or more of the six pillars of faith. I'tikaf, spiritual retreat in the mosque in the last ten days of Ramadan. Tarawih prayers after 'Isha. Taking sahur (night meal) Breaking the fast at sunset with an odd number of dates or with water. Providing food and water to others to break their fast. Sadaqa tu'l Fitr. Giving more in charity. Reciting the Qur'an more and more. To obey them and to be good to them. Not to say a word against them. To speak with them kindly and humbly. To be merciful to them as they were merciful to you in childhood. To take good care of them. To pray for them when they are alive as well as when they pass away. To do good deeds on their behalf when they are alive as well as when they pass away. The rights of the mother are three times the rights of the father. To carry out their will and injunctions (wasaya) after they pass away. To pay their debts, if any. To fulfil their rights even if they are not Muslims, except when they command to go against any of the laws of Allah in which case they are not to be obeyed but they have to be explained that politely To give the children good names when they are born. To do their aqiqa. To circumcise the boys. Not to kill a child out of fear of poverty. To teach them good manners and character so that they grow up to be good Muslims. To give them useful education for this life and for the Hereafter. To bring them up as noble wholesome characters. To teach them to love Allah, the Glorified and the Exalted, and His Beloved Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him. To make arrangements for their marriage to suitable, pious spouses. To treat all the children equally with love and affection. To set a good example for the children through action and behaviour. Adab means courtesy or respect. Rahmatullil 'Aalamin means "Mercy for all the worlds". The Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him. |
