The Shehu Uthman Dan Fodio Community in U.S.A.

As-salaam alaykum,

I’m a Kenyan-American who became Muslim not too long ago. I’m from the Shehu Uthman Dan Fodio community and we are confederated with the Ba’Alawi in Tarim. I would like to find more information about your particular community especially who are the members and where are you located. Jazak’Allah wa ma’a salaama.

Wa ‘alaykum us salaam Brother Muhammad Dawud,

Ramadan Mubarak!

We are naturally delighted to hear from you, to know that you are from the Shehu Uthman Dan Fodio community, and that you are in contact with the Ba ‘Alawi in Tarim.

Presently we are in Toronto but we are also originally from Kenya. Perhaps you have already read the article Reminiscences of Ramadan in Kenya. We also have a poem in KiSwahili to Welcome the Month of Ramadan.

We are a dhikr group and have a dhikr session every Thursday evening. Details about our annual activities are given in the article The ‘Alawiyya Tariqa in Toronto while details about our annual programs are given in the webpage Our Programs in Toronto.

We have dhikr in the Ba Alawi tradition but also have the annual night-long dhikr in Tariq al-Qaadiriyya.

We are of African-Swahili and Indian origin and associate with the Qaadiriyya brothers from Somalia, the Chishtiyya from India, the Rifaiyya from Lebanon, the Naqshbandiyya from Turkey, and the Shaziliyya from Guyana! The religion of Islam is truly international.

Alhamdu Lillah, we also have a small madrasa for Muslim children every Sunday.

We are blessed to have as our Shaykh, the majestic personality of al-Habib Ahmad Mash-hur bin Taha al-Haddad Rady Allahu ‘Anhu.

Please keep in touch, accept our salaams and convey them to the members of your family and community.

With salaams and du’a,
Siddiq.
