Hajj

Insha Allah, I am planning to go for Hajj and I would be grateful if you could recommend some duas that I can recite especially in Madina at the place where lies our beloved Prophet, peace be upon him, jannat-ul-baquee and certainly in Makka.

I know there are plenty of Hajj books but having visited your site, I am sure you will know of some special duas!!

Jazaakallah.
Mohammad Umar.

Assalamu ‘alaykum brother Mohammed Umar,

Congratulations on your most noble intention to perform Hajj. May Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala accept your intention, may you perform all the manasik (rites and ceremonies) of Hajj meritoriously, and may Allah accept your Hajj, Amin. Hajj mabrur!

It is always a good idea to inform your parents and your shaykh about your intention and to get their du’a.

You are now the guest of Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala and you have to respond with the Talbiya.

Labbayk Allahumma labbayk
Labbayk la sharika laka labbayk
Inna’l Hamda wa’n Ni’mata laka
wa’l Mulk
la sharika lak

Here I am at Your service, O Allah! Here I am!
I am at Your service. You are the One and Only God, without a partner.
I am at Your service.
Truly, all Praise and Blessing is for You and the Kingdom (is Yours too) You are the One and Only God without a partner.

We are reminded about the following Hadith on Hajj.

Hadrat Abu Hurayra Rady Allahu ‘Anhu reported that Allah’s Messenger Sallallahu ‘alayhi wa Sallam said: One ‘Umrah is an expiation for the sins committed between it and another ‘Umrah and an accepted Pilgrimage has got no less a reward than Paradise. (Bukhari and Muslim)

Another good intention you have made is to visit the Rawda (Garden of Paradise) of Prophet Muhammad Sallallahu ‘alayhi wa Sallam in Masjid an-Nabawi in Madina. We are reminded of two Hadith in this connection.

Hadrat ‘AbdAllah ibn ‘Umar Rady Allahu ‘Anhu relates that Prophet
Muhammad Sallallahu ‘alayhi wa Sallam said: Whoever visits me after my death is like he who had visited me during my life. (Tabarani, Daraqutni).

Hadrat Anas bin Malik Rady Allahu ‘Anhu reports that Rasulullah
Sallallahu ‘alayhi wa Sallam said: Whoever performs forty Salah in my Masjid (Masjid an-Nabawi), not missing one Salah in the Masjid, he is granted exemption from the fire of hell, and exemption from punishment, and he shall remain free of hypocrisy. (Ahmad, Tabarani).

While at the Rawda, please convey our salams to Rasulullah Sallallahu ‘alayhi wa Sallam.

Try to sweep the Haram Sharif (Sacred Grand Masjid) in Makka as well as the Masjid an-Nabawi in Madina with your eyelashes.

Try to complete the recitation of the whole Qur’an in the Haram in Makka at least once, as well as in Masjid an-Nabawi in Madina at least once.

You are right. The du’as to be recited in Makka, in Madina and at Jannat al-Baqi’ can be found in many books of Hajj, such as Risalah al-Hajj al-Mabrur wa’s Sa’y i’l Mashkur (A Treatise on the Muslim Pilgrimage that is Accepted by Allah and the Sa’y that is Appreciated by Allah), by As-Sayyid Muhammad ‘Abdallah bin Shaykh al-Husayni al-Hadrami.

It is advisable to have booklets of du’a or dhikr that are small in size so that you can carry them in your top pocket, or in a small bag while at ‘Arafah or Mina.

On the plain of ‘Arafa, recite Asma Allah al-Husna, Surah al-Ikhlas, and this Kalima at-Tawhid most often.

La ilaha Illallahu
Wahdahu la sharika lahu
Lahu’l Mulku wa lahu’l Hamdu
Yuhyi wa Yumitu
Biyadihi’l Khayru
wa Huwa ‘ala kulli shay-in Qadir

There is no god but Allah.
He is One without any partner.
His is the Kingdom and His is the Praise.
He gives life and causes death.
In His hand is all goodness,
and He is Powerful over all things.

It is most important to remember the teaching of the Qur’an not to argue while on Hajj.

Besides the basic five times daily Salah in the Masjid, please also do the dhikr that you do daily. For example, if you recite Ratib
al-Haddad on a daily basis, you should try to recite it everyday after ‘Isha in the Haram Sharif in Makka as well in Masjid an-Nabawi in Madina, as well as at all the major places throughout the journey. You can never miss the barakaat (blessings) of such a dhikr.

Perhaps you have already gone through the article Salams at the Rawda on the Iqra web-site. You might decide to recite Lataaif i’l ‘Arshiyya of al-Habib ‘Ali bin Muhammad al-Habshi in Masjid an-Nabawi , or his most famous salat .

You might decide to recite the salams on the Beloved Prophet Sallallahu ‘alayhi wa Sallam composed by Gawth al-A’zam Shaykh ‘Abdul Qadir al-Jilani or you might decide to recite Dalaail u’l Khayraat of Imam al-Jazuli , which is the first major book of salawaat.

You would also be well advised to recite the Salawaat of al-Habib Ahmad Mash-hur bin Taha al-Haddad May Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala accept all our noble intentions, Amin.

With many salams and du’a.
Siddiq.
